ProPublica predicts insolvency for Kansas’ unemployment insurance fund

Propublica, a national independent non-profit investigative journalism organization, on Wednesday reported that two dozen states have unemployment funds in the red, with nine more to be in the red within six months. 

Kansas is one of the states that may face insolvency in the next six months.

From ProPublica:

Kansas was a trust fund success story until its employment rate doubled in 2009. Its reserves have quickly dwindled, and we project the state will be borrowing within six months. Kansas employers, on average, face a tax increase from $162 to $350 per employee.
