On his web site Barack Obama’s second cousin, Dr. Milton R. Wolf, Leawood, is pushing for passage of the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment.

But the last battle on that bill may be on Wednesday.  From the KRA Blog, March 23, 2010:

Healthcare Freedom Act in KS House fails on Tuesday, one last chance to pass it on Wednesday

The final action vote in the Kansas House on HCR 5032 failed to receive the required 84 votes needed for a proposed constitutional amendment. Today’s vote was 75-47. One Republican, a supporter of the bill, voted nay in order to keep open a procedural option of asking for a vote to reconsider so at the moment the bill is not dead, however it is in need of an additional 8 supporters.

In the Kansas Senate the Health Care Freedom language failed in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  See Kansas LibertyRepublicans on the left help defeat Health Care Freedom Amendment.

Dr. Wolf’s blog, http://wolffiles.blogspot.com/, suggests a number of Kansas State Representatives that need to hear from constituents about this matter.

In recent weeks, Dr. Wolf, a diagnostic radiologist who practices in Shawnee, has been vocal in his opposition to Obamacare.

Washington Times, March 11

On March 11 Wolfe authored an opinion editorial in the Washington Times:

WOLF: Obama family health care fracas

Obamacare will further diminish access to health care by lowering reimbursements for medical care without regard to the costs of that care. Price controls have failed spectacularly wherever they’ve been tried. They have turned neighborhoods into slums and have caused supply chains to dry up when producers can no longer profit from providing their goods.

I wish my cousin Barack the greatest of success in office. But I feel duty-bound to rise in opposition to Obamacare. I must take a stand for my patients, my profession and, ultimately, my country. The problems caused by government will not be solved by growing government. Now that this new era of big-government takeovers has spread to our health care system, it’s not just our freedoms or our wallets that are at stake. It’s our lives.

Dr. Milton R. Wolf is a radiologist in Kansas. He is Barack Obama’s second cousin once removed. President Obama’s great-great grandfather, Thomas Creekmore McCurry, is Dr. Wolf’s great-grandfather. Dr. Wolf’s mother, Anna Margaret McCurry, was five years older than Mr. Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham. The two were childhood friends until the Dunhams moved from Kansas to Seattle in 1955.

Fox & Friends Interviews President Obama’s Cousin Milton R. Wolf, M.D

Wolf:

Barack and I are second cousins. On the maternal side of the family. His grandmother Madelyn [Dunham] was my mother’s first cousin.

We are all enormously proud of him and his achievements.

Darla Jaye, KMBZ, March 19

Listen to podcast.

Dr. Milton R Wolf was in Washington, DC on Friday to appear at the Saturday. Darla interviewed him via phone on her KMBZ talk show:

Darla Jaye:  “You started speaking up a few weeks ago, and  want to know why.”

Dr. Milton R. Wolf:    “It’s important that someone speaks up for our patients.  … This is not about me, or about Barack, this is about my patients.  This is about an oath I took years ago to provide them with the best care that I can.  I’m afraid that if the health overall goes into effect, I won’t be able to do that.”

Jaye:  “… everyone assumes because the AMA is for it, then you guys are too.”

Wolf:  “… at least two-thirds of doctors are opposed to this … I’m not going to put NASCAR style advertisements all over my white coat.  I’m going to stand up for my patients, and I won’t be bought they way they have.”
