Sheriff Joe Arpaio talks to KMBZ's Darla Jaye on Tuesday evening. Congressman Todd Tiahrt is seated at the left, and Dan Gilyeat is standing at the right.

Overland Park.  Sheriff Joe Arpaio from Maricopa County Arizona appeared Wednesday evening at a rally about illegal immigration held in support of Kansas Secretary of State candidate Kris Kobach.

The event was held at the Ritz Charles convention center after permission to hold the controversial event at  MidAmerica Nazarene University was withdrawn.

Kobach is one of the authors of the new state law SB 1070 about illegal immigration in Arizona.

Several hundred held a mostly silent “Love Conquers Hate” protest along the sidewalk on the perimeter of the convention center.

More than 50 from the NAACP Convention in Kansas City joined the protest over concerns of racial profiling.  They chanted “hope, not hate” as they arrived in a small parade.  See video below.

Kobach's "Illegal is Illegal" Rally was held in a packed, standing room only convention hall

KMBZ’s Darla Jaye interviewed Sheriff Arpaio on her radio program immediately before the 7 PM rally.

U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt, now a candidate for U.S. Senate, and Dan Gilyeat, a candidate for KS-3 Congress, can be seen in the video with Arpaio.

The “Illegal is Illegal” rally was standing room only in a large convention hall where a few thousand packed the room.

The first speaker was proud immigrant Angelo Mino, who said he was “born in Ecuador, made in America.”

Dan Gilyear presented Sheriff Arpaio with a U.S. flag.

Emcee Chris Stigall said the story of Joe Arpaio and Kris Kobach was one of preserving America liberty.

"Love Conquers Hate" protest attracted several hundred

Kobach commented about the protesters’ use of the word “hate” in their flier for the event.  Kobach said “we are not motivated by hate, we are motivated by love.”  See video below.

Arpaio explained that Kobach also helped Arizona craft other laws, including one on human smuggling and the employer sanction law.

“You can have all the laws on the books, but you must enforce the laws,” according to Arpaio.

Arpaio described the Obama administration stripping his office of the power to enforce federal laws.  His deputies had been trained by Homeland Security as federal deputies, but they no longer have the authority to enforce federal laws.

Kobach’s presentation was interrupted by Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass with news of a suspicious package.  A bomb-sniffing dog had shown interest in the package, but it was later determined to be an abandoned briefcase.  Many were delayed from getting back to their cars as Overland Park police dealt with the suspicious package.

i just cannot believe the level of ignorance on this subject by the protesters. throwing the race card is a sign of weakness. it’s like if you have no case, no argument, nor anything factual on your side, you have nothing left but namecalling. barack hussein obama is a perfect example of that. and to hear the pastor claim that kris kobach called the illegals a curse…..really?? i haven’t heard nor seen such rhetoric. the only nastiness i see is the uninformed with their kkk signs and other falsities that try and portray our concern for national safety and freedom from foriegn enemies, as being racist. the use of that term is weakened everytime its falsly thrown out.

but, the rally was awesome. i got to hear from two of my hero’s, sherrif joe and kris kobach.

the media claimed that chaos erupted, and all 400 of us fled the building. i’m wondering where that was, because it wasn’t at the ritz.

Come on Joe, you are loved by people in Arizona…not by the criminals and the people on the wrong side, but loved by the people who want their state back.

I have a friend who works for ICE and he asks everyone (illegal aliens) he arrests if they want to become a US citizen and less then 5% of the aliens say yes. He has affected arrests for over 7 years. They DONT want to be citizens. THEY want to take from the US (money, jobs, benefits) and not pay taxes, be held accountable or assimilate. When the jobs, money, and benefits run out they will leave our country a s**t hole like they left theirs. We need to act now and protect our sovereignty as a nation. Amnesty is not the answer. These ILLEGAL aliens don’t care about our nation.

These “pro” illegal alien people are so ignorant it is unbelievable… The Human trafficking, drug smuggling, basic human rights violations, crimes against women and children, murder and sex crimes that are continously being documented as a direct and immediate result of the actual illegal crossing of the border alone are mind boggling. Women and children are being brought acoss the border and being forced into the illegal sex trade, they are being raped and murdered on the way here, being used as mules to transport the drugs that are addicting and killing our youth and destroying our families and cities. Then there are the diseases that are coming across the border unchecked, look at swine flu as a prime example. Fortunately it only took it’s toll on those who were in poor health, but what if it were anthrax, small pox, bubonic plague or ebola? ANd this doesnt even take into consideration the indirect consequences of the actions of the criminals that come across the border, or the fact that those who cross are all forced into lives of criminality through identity theft through stolen social security numbers and worse… ANd then there are those who die in the desert because they simply can not survive the journey due to dehydration, lack of proper nutrition and medical care…

Allowing the border to stay open is creating massive numbers of human right violations, costing lives destroying lives and ruining families here and in Mexico, So tell me just WHO are the real haters and who are the ones looking out for the welfare of all those involved? The liberals, in refusing to close the borders and stop the flood are MURDERING Americans AND Mexicans alike and they just do NOT give a Damn!

I think Joe Arpaio is doing his job. I am an immigrant in this country and I hate say this but U.S. Government no has no control of this situation. It is getting more bad every day, I am sad see what this country is turn and no one doing much at all. Ten years a go when I come was totally different that is now and that time or now I still think the border should be better control. If the police stop someone because traffic violation or any other violation of the U.S. law or rules and no have no legal documentation and is illegal this person should be send back their country after words. This is the right think to do.
U.S. police job is asked for documentation for anyone? If ask me for my document and I don’t have any identification I should be investigate anyways. So what illegal immigrant complaint off? We are immigrant and we were come to this country and fake Social Security numbers to work we are doing false documentation what is illegal and who do that in my country need be in jail. Why here no put in jail no only that person fakes documentation but the impresarios, executives all people hiring an illegal immigrants. Again I am immigrant but the law is the law and come illegal and think we are right is ridicules.

AH! Why all the America Citizens no speck out and say something? Why no send emails and letters and make the Government to know this out control, this Country is invade without control and it will cause big damage to this country and all American no doing anything! American Citizens who is no happy with this situation should say something, send letters to the congress, email, or whatever you can do, anything will help. It’s very sad see in ten years no one doing anything…
