“Kansas Jackass” Blogger Pleads Guilty on 3 Counts of Child Porn

TOPEKA. Former blogger Jason Croucher entered a plea of guilty to 3 counts of child pornography on Wednesday morning at the U.S. Court House.
Croucher’s progressive “Kansas Jackass” blog was widely read by members of the Kansas Legislature and others in Kansas in 2009. The blog is no longer online. The twitter bio for the KansasJackass said his blog was “bringing you the liberal bias you wish the media really did have.” Croucher’s prolific tweets — he tweeted over 6200 times — often gave insight on the inner workings of the legislature as he tweeted from the house gallery.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart gave details of an FBI investigation of an invitation-only file sharing service in San Diego that originally held the images and video. Hart described various file transfers and chat sessions between Croucher and others related to the file sharing service. Hart said the FBI traced an IP address from the file sharing service to Croucher’s home in Osage City.
Hart said about 700 images had been discovered on Croucher’s computers, some of which included infants and bondage. In response to a question from Judge Julie Robinson, Hart said none of the videos involved the killing of a child, or a dead child.
Croucher admitted transferring the files to his computers but said he did not know if the files originated inside or outside of Kansas. The federal charges claimed the files had crossed state lines.
Judge Robinson ordered Croucher to be taken into custody until his sentencing on Dec. 20.
