Lists of advance ballot voters  provided by the Kansas Secretary of State on Monday showed 195,742 advance ballots had been sent, but only 144,813 had been returned.  An additional 69,814 ballots had been cast in person in advance of the election on Tuesday.

The counts of the returned and in person ballots were analyzed after excluding 27 duplicates on both lists.

Republicans cast 123,345 advance ballots statewide to 61,508 by Democrats.  Democrats had a 2-to-1 ratio over unaffiliated voters with only 29,095 unaffiliated voters having cast advance ballots.

Democrats hold the advance ballots advantage in Cherokee, Crawford, Douglas and Wyandotte Counties.

There have been no advance ballots votes reported from Stanton County.

[Update] Election Commission Brian Newby explains the 8 Johnson County duplicates (of the 27 statewide) on the lists:

These were eight persons who had been issued a ballot by mail but came into vote. We rejected their paper ballot in the system and they voted in person, so there was no chance they voted twice. But, this puts them twice on the list, once for the first ballot that was rejected and once for the replacement.

Newby explained the daily E-mails with the lists include the disclaimer:  “File may include voters who have been issued a replacement ballot.”

Advance ballot breakdowns by party may give clues about election results.  Tables below show the number of advance ballots by party by county and by Kansas House district.
